Who We Are

With over 15 years of experience, Coast Ecology is a trusted provider of terrestrial and aquatic environmental assessments across the Central Coast, Hunter, Greater Sydney, and beyond. We deliver accurate, science-based solutions that help clients meet legislative requirements while protecting Australia’s unique natural environments.

Our services are grounded in extensive fieldwork, strong scientific expertise, and a practical understanding of environmental legislation at local, state, and federal levels. From flora and fauna surveys to biodiversity assessment reports, seagrass mapping, and wetland rehabilitation, we work with government agencies, developers, and private landowners to achieve compliant and environmentally responsible outcomes.

Meet Our Director

As an experienced ecologist, Dr Kristy McQueen brings a wealth of knowledge in marine science, terrestrial ecology, biodiversity assessment, and habitat management. Kristy has worked extensively across NSW on projects ranging from large-scale infrastructure developments to small private land assessments. Her passion lies in delivering practical solutions that balance development needs with environmental conservation.


Specialist Skills & Expertise:

  • Accredited Assessors for the implementation of the Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM) for the preparation of BDARs, BSSARs, and BCARs under the Biodiversity Conservation Act.
  • Flora and fauna surveys including targeted threatened species surveys and assessment of their habitat.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Federal, State, and Local environmental legislation.
  • Project management for environmental studies, assessments, and approvals.
  • AUSRIVAS assessments (macroinvertebrate sampling and assessment for quantifying river health).
  • Water quality monitoring for freshwater and marine environments.
  • Aquatic and marine vegetation (seagrass, saltmarsh, mangrove) mapping and rehabilitation programs in accordance with the Fisheries Management Act.
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping and spatial analysis for environmental planning.
  • Tree hollow inspections using spikeless climbing techniques.
